- A genuinely lovely experience, I left feeling informed of how to help my son and pleased with his overall progress.
- Thank you to all the teachers and support staff for making the transition into school as smooth as possible.
- A really informative meeting, I felt that my daughter's teacher really knew my child, very useful support at school and ways I can enhance my child's learning at home.
Parent comments following parent-teacher meetings November 2017
Learning and Teaching
We have revised our curriculum to meet the requirements of the 2014 National Curriculum. The National Curriculum lies at the heart of the education provided for our children. This is a national framework of aims and objectives upon which our teaching staff build, using their particular skills, to meet the individual requirements of all our children. Our own Cholsey curriculum has been put together to suit the needs of the children in our school and we emphasise the importance of cross-curricular links which help children to make connections between the different areas of learning.
We were inspired by our whole school visit to the Story Museum in Oxford in June 2014 to base our new curriculum topics around the classic children's books in their 26 Characters Exhibition. We therefore launched the 2014 curriculum with a whole school topic on Peter Pan.
Our curriculum encourages children to share their work and their learning with their parents and we plan to continue to conclude our topics with special afternoons hosted by the children who invite their parents and carers to take part in the learning. These days have been valuable and enjoyable for children, carers and teachers and a fantastic opportunity for the children to show off their creativity. Our Peter Pan exhibition included work completed in school as well as an amazing array of exhibits made at home. We were delighted to welcome approximately 150 visitors to enjoy this afternoon event.
Reading and Writing at Cholsey School
Our main aim is to foster a life-long love of reading and writing in all our children but you can access a detailed review of how we teach the skills by clicking on the links below. Please also see our Home Learning Page for further literacy resources and book recommendations.
